Man Claims Self-Defense in Dragging Death of Washington Teen

NEWPORT, Wash. - A man accused of tying a rope around the neck of a college student who was strangled while being dragged 13 miles behind a pickup truck has been charged in the student's death.
When I read the first paragraph the first time I thought this would be another racial hatred story like the dragging deaths in Jackson Texas a few years go.

But then I read this part of the story:
Nollette has said his client acted in self-defense and to protect others at a northeastern Washington hunting camp where witnesses said Sturman-Camyn became violent and out of control.
Self-defense? My Uncle Buck is the world's greatest bullshitter. Nobody can even come close. However Buck could never in his wildest immagination come up with a line like that. The kid became "out of control" so the logical next step is to put a rope around his neck and drag him behind a truck for 13 miles? What am I missing here?
