The Green Jobs Act of 2007

Maybe it did some good after all for Nancy Pelosi to fly up to Greenland a few days ago and get the low down on global warming up close and personal.

Just recently the Speaker introduced the Green Jobs Act of 2007 (HR 2847). Its purposes are to

Authorize $125 million in federal funds for job training programs in green sectors like energy efficient buildings and construction, renewable electricity, energy efficient vehicles, and more.

Train 35,000 workers in clean and green industries.

Provide green pathways out of poverty for young adults with barriers to employment, displaced workers, and veterans.

HuffingtonPost.com has even more information about the legislation here.

Leave it to forward thinking Democrats to conceive legislation like this. Can you imagine Trent Lott or Jim Inhofe doing this? Nope. Ain't gonna happen.

All of the Republic Party nitwits who say that doing things to combat global warming will "cost jobs" need to check this out. Is this legislation any different than the Jobs in the Woods program that was put together to help out loggers displaced by spotted owl conservation in the Pacific Northwest. Nope. And come to think of it, it was a Democrat (Bill Clinton) who thought up that program.

And to think that all the Republic Party wants to do is make us kneel before its 'god" and then send it campaign contributions. I wonder how many rednecks in Wedowee, Alabama, have benefitted from any Bush program since it was first anointed?
