Pouring Water Down a Badger Hole

The following email was just sent to Senator Jim Webb (pugnacious D-VA), Senator John Warner (R-VA) and my Congressman Jim Moran, also a pugnacious D from Virginia regarding the most recent Bush atrocity - his statement that he needs an additional $245 billion over the next two years to further inflame passions against the United States in the Middle East.

Dear

In the lead up to the illegal invasion of Iraq, we were told by our "leader" that the war in Iraq would "pay for itself." (Almost in the same breath we were told by Dick Cheney, the man with the permanent snarl, that we would be greeted as liberators - but thats a different lie). As of today we have spent something like $470 BILLION dollars pouring water down that badger hole and its gotten us nothing but a black eye in the world community.

Now, today, we are told that Bush wants an additional $245 BILLION over the rest of this FY and next FY for his misadventures and folly in Iraqnam.

I don't know about you but I'm sure sick of this. What he's proposing will top $700 billion dollars over 6 years. Think of what we the people could have done with that money to work on health care reform, upgrading infrastructure, increased research on mental health issues, working to make sure that no child really is left behind, cleaning up our drinking water supplies, suicide prevention outreach and education, expanding student loan programs for college students or forgiving the loans that have already been given, and a whole host of other issues that would benefit society.

Instead we are being told by the man-child in the White House that he wants more play money to kill more American kids so his oil buddies can make bigger profits when the mess is over.

I'm fed up and I hope you are also. Please show some pugnaciousness when this spending bill comes up for debate. Say not only no, but hell no. If Bush and the Neocons are so gung ho on spending that kind of money why aren't they paying for it themselves? William Kristol should start putting his money where his Neocon mouth is.

Please let us know in a news release or some other form how you plan to address this latest waste of your money and mine that will do nothing more than further harm the name of the United States in the world's view.

Thanks.
