A strong earthquake measuring 7.4 magnitude has hit near the island of Martinique in the eastern Caribbean, the US Geological Survey has said.
The earthquake struck at 1500 (1900 GMT) off the north-west coast of Martinique at a depth of 145.4 kilometres (90.4 miles).
A verse in "Migration", the greatest song ever written, and my major goal in life, goes :"
If I ever live to be an old man, I'm going sail down to Martinique. I'm gonna buy me a sweat-stained Bogart suit and an African parakeet. And then I'll sit him on my shoulder and open up my trusty old mind. I'm gonna teach him how to fuss and teach him how to cuss, and pull the cork out of a bottle of wine....." I just hope all the nice French people on Martinique are safe after what must have been one hell of a ride.
