US Prepares $20 Billion Arms Deal with Saudis

The Bush administration is preparing to ask Congress to approve an arms sale package for Saudi Arabia and its neighbors that is expected to eventually total $20 billion at a time when some United States officials contend that the Saudis are playing a counterproductive role in Iraq.

The proposed package of advanced weaponry for Saudi Arabia, which includes advanced satellite-guided bombs, upgrades to its fighters and new naval vessels, has made Israel and some of its supporters in Congress nervous. Senior officials who described the package on Friday said they believed that the administration had resolved those concerns, in part by promising Israel $30.4 billion in military aid over the next decade, a significant increase over what Israel has received in the past 10 years.

Now isn't this just sweet? Remember it was Saudi Arabia that produced 15 of the 19 hijackers who attacked the WTC and Pentagon on September 11. It therefore became obvious in early 2003 that in response to Saudi Arabia contributing 75 percent of the people who attacked the country we should invade Iraq and teach them a lesson.

Now nearly 6 years since that fateful day the United States will continue its embargo of all things Saudi by selling them $20 billion worth of armaments. With the war in Iraqnam costing us $12 billion a month I guess Bush's twisted logic is that he can finance 7 weeks of his misadventure with Saudi oil money. Makes perfect sense to me.
