Jury Awards Father $11M in Funeral Case

BALTIMORE - A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.

The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress.
Finally there is some justice from the justice system.

How this group of hate mongers in Kansas can consider themselves to be "christians" is beyond me. The "christ" I studied when I was in Lutheran confirmation classes taught about love and turning the other cheek. These jackals are 180 degrees the opposite.

The most deplorable thing they did, of course, was to heckle those mourning the loss of their loved ones who had been killed in Bush's illegal war in Iraqnam. For that horrifically insensitive thing, they should have to pay much more than $11 million. But thats a good start.

Joe Conason on Rudy's House of Glass

In Rudolph Giuliani’s narrative of his own life, as confided to rapt Republican voters along the presidential primary trail, he has been fighting the lonely twilight struggle against “Islamic terrorism,” as he insists on calling it, since sometime in the 1970’s. Like President Bush, Mr. Giuliani is vain enough to compare himself with Winston Churchill. Both the former mayor and his supporters often suggest that his understanding of the terror threat is visceral and almost mystical. Only he, among all the candidates of both parties, truly grasps the issue and possesses the fortitude to confront the threat.
Once again Joe Conason hits the nail on the head. This time about Rudy Guilliani

Kucinich Questions Bush's Mental Health

PHILADELPHIA - Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich questioned President Bush's mental health in light of comments he made about a nuclear Iran precipitating World War III.

"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."
Its most unfortunate that the only liberal candidate who isnt scared shitless to speak the truth, is named after and looks like Dennis the Menace.

Bush's Legacy of Cynicism

When George W. Bush surveys his presidency, he will see two wars commenced and none concluded, Osama bin Laden still on the loose, American prestige at record lows throughout the world, a military both broken and abused, and a country that in large part thinks its government is a liar. Guinness World Records will need a chapter for Bush alone.

Below is the email I just submitted to Mr Cohen. Follow my lead and send something similar. Here's his email address: cohenr@washpost.com

Washington DC

Dear Mr Cohen

I want to thank you and commend you for your excellent piece in the Washington Post today regarding Bush's legacy of cynicism. I think the Guinness Book of Records will need an entire book for Bush, not a single chapter.

As I read your excellent piece this morning I was struck with something that I needed to write and ask you.

To wit, why in hell weren't you and the rest of the supposedly liberally-biased media writing stories like this and asking questions like this in the run up to the 2000 election?

Why was the Washington Post being led around by the testicles by Bob Woodward and your editorial board as the formerly great Washington Post served as a national cheerleader for the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq?

Why didnt you or any other respected news organ eviscerate Bush with this sort of reality in the run up to the 2004 election (his second electoral theft in as many tries)?

Why did you and everyone wait until now, after we have killed 3,900 American kids for his lies, after we have bankrupted the nation with his $400 Billion dollar war on "terror" fiasco, after many constitutionally protected rights have been eviscerated, after the United States has been made the laughing stock of the world community because of this jackal.

Mr Cohen. Why weren't you and everyone else in the media we used to respect doing your job instead of allowing this fool to run roughshod over our nation?

You can't re-write history but you can, from today forward, devote every one of your columns to pointing out what an unmitigated disaster our man-child in the White House is. To make up for your letting Bush get away with murder will you at least promise to do that for the last very long 448 days of his interminable administration? Please?

George Bush the Terrorist

MUCH as George W. Bush’s presidency was ineluctably shaped by Sept. 11, 2001, so the outbreak of the French Revolution was symbolized by the events of one fateful day, July 14, 1789. And though 18th-century France may seem impossibly distant to contemporary Americans, future historians examining Mr. Bush’s presidency within the longer sweep of political and intellectual history may find the French Revolution useful in understanding his curious brand of 21st- century conservatism.
Its freightening how much history repeats itself. Unfortunately I doubt the United States will learn from its horrific mistake that began on January 20, 2001. Look at how almost all of the Repignofascist candidates for president (with the exception of Ron Paul) are trying their best to be cast as George II.

Did Gandhi Anticipate George Bush?

Strengthening of Consumer Agency Opposed by Its Boss

The top official for consumer product safety has asked Congress in recent days to reject legislation that would strengthen the agency that polices thousands of consumer goods, from toys to tools.

On the eve of an important Senate committee meeting to consider the legislation, Nancy A. Nord, the acting chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has asked lawmakers in two letters not to approve the bulk of legislation that would increase the agency’s authority, double its budget and sharply increase its dwindling staff.
Is this classic governmental mismanagement or what? This is akin to the Department of the Interior (allegedly the main conservation agency of the federal government) coming out in favor of drilling for 2 days worth of oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Now, instead of destryong a wilderness, we have the head of the agency formed to protect consumers from things like lead in paint from China, saying that the rules the agency operates under need to be weakened. So much for protecting consumers. After all this is the Bush Reich - their goal is to protect business and campaign contributors at the expense of the public. How this moron retains a 24 percent approval rating is beyond me.

Wake up sheeple.

Virginia Senator Jim Webb Seen As Potential VP Candidate in 08

Just 10 months into his first term in elected office, James Webb found himself on the podium for one of the most coveted speaking slots in Democratic politics.

The freshman senator from Virginia delivered the keynote address to the New Hampshire Democratic Party at its annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner a week ago, a role that in recent years has been played by current and former White House candidates John Edwards and John F. Kerry. Two years ago the speech was delivered by Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.), who is viewed as a potential vice presidential pick next year.
Christ I hope not!

A year ago Jim Webb was telling us all sorts of lies about how he was going to stand up to the Bush Cabal, how he was going to get us out of Iraq, how he was going to do all sorts of things that we the people wanted of our Senator.

And what has he done since taking office 10 months ago? He's voted to provide funds to keep the war in Iraqnam funded to the exact tune that Bush wants. In 10 months of writing him about substantive issues, he has never once ONCE written back to me, a constituent.

All Jim Webb has done is basked in the glow of this super hero persona that has been generated for him. He's a huge mistake and a huge disappointment. If I knew now what I knew last October when I cast my absentee ballot I would have left blank the box for US Senator from Virginia.

For Vice-President we need someone with integrity. Someone who wont bend over for the will of the party. Someone who has some guts. Jim Webb may have had them when he was ducking bullets in Nam (and I'm starting to wonder if he really did fight in Nam or was he in some reah aechelon cushy job). He is not a Senator and he's sure as hell not a Vice President.

TSA Wants Us To Get Permission to Fly

Now the Bush administration wants to take away the American people's freedom to travel within their own country by airplane. Not content with an 80,000 "no fly" list, a subset of a 500,000-750,000 "watch list," the Bush administration's Transport Security Administration has proposed new rules that will require Americans to get government permission 72 hours in advance prior to being allowed to board a domestic flight.

The TSA justifies this extraordinary violation of our constitutional rights on the grounds that 90 to 93 percent of all travel reservations are final by then.
Read here about this latest Orwellian proposal from those sick bastards in the Bush Administration.

And what's really hilarious about this latest invasion of privacy is that most TSA employees are so grossly overweight they couldn't run down a "terrorist" even if they did have law enforcement authority.

From the Guy Who Had Sex With Senator Wide Stance

We’ve been having loads of fun with gay restroom goblin Larry Craig over the past couple of months, haven’t we? What we’ve been missing, though, is an on-the-record account from a source willing to come forward and tell what it’s like to have an actual romantic liaison with the Idaho Republican. Meet David Phillips, a local IT geek and bear-about-town.

Senator Wide-Stance Argues Foot Tapping is Constitutionally Protected

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig will argue before an appeals court that Minnesota's disorderly conduct law is unconstitutional as it applies to his conviction in a bathroom sex sting, according to a new court filing.
Senator Wide-Stance just doesn't seem to want to let it drop.

Its interesting that the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a brief on his side in this issue. That means to me that there must be some merit to his argument or the ACLU wouldn't have stepped in. Its also ironic as hell. I would imagine all the Repignofascists are sitting in horror that a "liberal" group like the ACLU would take on their issue with them.

I encourage Wide-stance to keep pushing this issue. The longer he does the less likely it is to go away and that can only bode well for the Democrat running for his seat next year. Keep it up Wide-stance!

FEMA Does "Heckuva Job" on News Conference

WASHINGTON — The White House scolded the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday for staging a phony news conference about assistance to victims of wildfires in southern California.

The agency _ much maligned for its sluggish response to Hurricane Katrina over two years ago _ arranged to have FEMA employees play the part of independent reporters Tuesday and ask questions of Vice Adm. Harvey E. Johnson, the agency's deputy director.

The questions were predictably soft and gratuitous.

"I'm very happy with FEMA's response," Johnson said in reply to one query from an agency employee.
Had this happened in the Clinton Administration there would have been immediate calls for the head (literally) of the FEMA Director and someone would have called for Bill to be impeached.

But this happened under George Bush's watch so its par for the course and nothing will happen to anyone. In fact, just watch, the Director of FEMA will likely be given the Medal of Freedom.

The Bushies have made such a mockery of government its pathetic. And its all been facilitated and "reported" by the Fox Opinion Network. No wonder 40 percent of Americans still believe Saddam was involved with 9/11.

Investigating Repignofascist Murders

Why is it so difficult to solve the murder of a Repignofascist?

1 - The DNA is all the same, and
2 - There are no dental records

Redneck Special Forces

The Pentagon announced the formation of a new 500-man elite fighting unit called - The United States Redneck Special Forces (USRSF)

These mostly Southern boys will be dropped off into Iraq and will be given only the following facts about alleged terrorists :

1. Terrorists believe that Bill O'Reilly is a lying liar,
2. Terrorists believe Rush Limbaugh is a porcine idiot,
3. Terrorists don't like beer, pickups, country music, or Jesus,
4. Terrorists believe that NASCAR is watched only by pussies, and
5. Terrorists want to acquire Fox News and turn it into a respectable news outlet

The Pentagon expects the problem in Iraq to be over by next Friday

Bush Zombies

Granted its a parody, but it wouldn't be surprising if it Bush did this.

Finally Some Sanity From the Justice System

ATLANTA - Georgia's Supreme Court on Friday ordered the release of a young man who has been imprisoned for more than two years for having consensual oral sex with another teenager.

The court ruled 4-3 that the 10-year sentence Genarlow Wilson received was cruel and unusual punishment, and it directed a lower court to reverse the conviction and release him.
It took the Georgia court system long enough to figure out that the Dark Ages were several hundred years ago.

If oral sex between consenting teens is illegal then damned near every teen in America belongs behind bars. Several studies have indicated that kids who get caught up in the Bush-inspired abstinence bullshit still get off by doing it orally. And if oral was such a criminal enterprise, half of the 1969 graduating class from Rice Lake Senior High School in northern Wisconsin would have been in jail long long ago.

People are going to fuck and people are going to have oral and all of the supremely outdated and parochial laws on the books forbidding normal human behavior won't change that. Its refreshing to see that the Georgia courts have joined the 21st Century. Now if we could just get that state to reject the Baptist Church, the KKK, Rush Limbaugh, the Faux Opinion Network, and the Repignofascist Party, they'd be on their way to being more mainstream.

But baby steps. Always baby steps.

House Democrats Unveil Trillion Dollar Tax Overhaul

WASHINGTON - The House's top Democratic tax writer outlined a $1 trillion plan Thursday to eliminate the alternative minimum tax and ease the tax burdens of most people by asking the rich and some companies to pay more.

"We have attempted to restore equity and fairness to the system," said Rep. Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. He said his plan would mean net tax cuts to almost all families with incomes under $500,000.
Just watch. As soon as the Democratically-controlled House passes this bill it will be sent to the Senate where the spineless Democrats in "control" there will waffle in support because they will be afraid that Fox Opinion Network will shine poorly on them if they support helping the not-so-rich.

By some stroke of luck, should this bill make it past the House and Senate and land on Bush's desk, he will immediately veto it because it doesn't give enough tax breaks to his rich Repignofascist buddies in the top 1 percent of salary earners in the country.

And of course when that happens, the spineless Democrats in the Senate will roll over on their backs, expose their jugular to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck and nothing will happen.

Wake up, sheeple.

Lebanese Troops Fire on Aggressive Israeli Fighter Jets

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanese troops opened fire Thursday on Israeli warplanes flying low over southern Lebanon, but no hits were reported, Lebanese officials said.

Israeli warplanes frequently fly over Lebanese airspace in what Israel says are reconnaissance missions, but this was the first time the Lebanese army has fired on the aircraft since an Aug. 14, 2006, cease-fire ended a monthlong war between Israeli and Hezbollah guerrillas.
The pain in the ass Israeli military continues to fan the flames of discontent in the Middle East and there is absolutely no end in sight.

I used to believe the "poor Israel" mantra until I started traveling to the Middle East and talking with Arabic people and discovering that the Israeli's are the root of the problem of no peace in the Middle East. Its not the Arabs. Its the infantile American-supported Jewish hate machine that is the problem. There really will not be peace in the Middle East until the Jewish hate machine is subdued. And if that means the elimination of the Jewish hate machine, then I have to agree with the President of Iran. For the sake of humanity we can't wait much longer. Something has to give. And history shows it will not be the terrorist state of Israel that gives.

CondoSleeza Rice Gets Accosted, Called "War Criminal" At Hearing

Is this priceless or what?? Secretary of Reich, Condosleeza "Fang" Rice was accosted by one of the valiant women from CODE PINK at a hearing today in Washington. Soon after attacking the vile Condo, the CODE PINK person is hauled away yelling "War Criminal" at her. Not long after another CODE PINK person is roughed up, manhandled, and removed.

Isn't democracy wonderful? Exercise your right to freedom of expression and be hauled off like a criminal.

Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to embed the video so you'll have to follow the link to the Huffington Post and watch it there.

U.S. CBO Estimates $2.4 Trillion Long-Term War Costs

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost taxpayers a total of $2.4 trillion by 2017 when counting the huge interest costs because combat is being financed with borrowed money, according to a study released on Wednesday.
Remember when that little gutter snipe Paul Wolfowitz testified before Congress that the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam would "pay for itself."?? Remember that pack of lies that the sheeple of America heard and believed and then urged their members of Congress to support???

Well its coming back to bite us in the Cheney. And not one of those despicable bastards who lied us into this illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam will be paying for it because the laws they have had passed will give all those rich bastards a free pass on paying more taxes to pay for Bush's Folly.

You and me and every other middle class American (assuming there still is a Middle Class) will be paying for this foolishness for many years to come. Despite Wolfie saying that the war will pay for itself, not one person, not a single Democrat, will demand that Bush or Cheney or Wolfie or any of the other architects of this disaster will have to spend a single second in jail for what they created.

Nope. You and me and everyone else who pays taxes will pay for this while Bush skates.

Do you still enjoy being fucked with no lubricant? Wake up, Sheeple.

On The Eve of Destruction

Listen to Barry McGuire sing those fantastic and futuristic words from long ago as you read these words by Scott Ritter, a former United Nations weapons inspector in Iraqnam who was dissed and dismissed by the Reichwing Noise Machine when he pointed out that there were no Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraqnam. And there hadn't been since Daddy Bush sold them to Saddam in the first place.

Someday that despicable little prick in the White House will pay for the harm he has brought to the earth. I hope there is a "god" and a "jesus" and they both hold a "judgement day" and they pack his little ass south to warmer climates.

Welcome to the Start of World War III

World War III is being brought to you by George W. Bush - the man who said his illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam would bring "stability" to the Middle East.

Meanwhile Fang Rice is running around the Middle East trying to figure out which way is the safe way to get back to Stanford (she doesn't realize that Stanford doesn't want her any more).

Unfortunately for us and the Middle East, Fang is too stupid to realize that its her boss who is the major obstacle to peace in the Middle East.

1000 Posts

By the count of blogspot.com this is the 1,000th post I have made under the Skewering The Chimp banner since that fateful day in December 2006 when I finally figured out how to make a blog!

Its been an interesting and informative time and from the comments received on my posts, its obvious I have pissed off a lot of Reichwing Nutcases. That, and educating the educable, was my purpose from the time I made my first post.

So, in typical Caribbean fashion, mon, sit back with a bottle of Jamaican cerveza (and some Jamaican gold if you can score some) and reflect back on the last 999 posts. I promise that for as long as that sniveling little Cheney-wipe is in office I will continue to post my feelings about him and what he has done to this formerly great country.

Turkey Shells Kurd Positions Inside Iraqnam

ANKARA, Turkey - Turkish troops have shelled suspected Kurdish rebel positions in Iraq, a government official said Wednesday, as military and civilian leaders were expected to discuss the scope and duration of a cross-border incursion.
How can this be?

I thought one of the lies Bush told us about his illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam was that it would bring stability to the Middle East. Must be the Turks didn't believe the Chimp, huh?

Wake up sheeple.

Senate Passes Spending Bill in Feeble Attempt to Stand Up to the Chimp

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Democrats on Tuesday reversed President Bush's cuts to education, health research and grants to local communities as they gird for Bush's first-ever veto of a regular appropriations bill.

By a 75-19 vote, the Senate gave bipartisan approval to a huge health and education spending bill that will likely be the first of the fiscal 2008 spending bills Democrats will ship to the White House to start a veto battle involving the budget for almost every domestic agency.
Just watch. Once the Chimp vetoes this bill, the Reichwing Noise Machine will begin demonstrating Democrats as being weak on terror, even though this is a health and education bill, and when it comes time for a vote to override the veto, our spineless Democratic Senate will cave and give Bush exactly what he wants. And when they do the American public loses while Fox Opinion Network once again wins.

Even Fewer Americans Now Believe US Foreign Policy Thwarting Terrorism

WASHINGTON - Fewer people think the U.S. is adequately thwarting terrorists, meeting its objectives in Iraq or achieving other goals overseas, according to a poll that shows a deepening skepticism about the country's foreign policy.
This is great news although the increase in the number of Americans who think military action against Iran is necessary is disheartening. Didn't they learn from the last pack of lies about a non-existent "threat" in the Middle East?

Keep waking up, sheeple.

Meet the Next Senator from Minnesota

Check out this piece from Truthout that portrays Minnesota's next United States Senator in a very positive light.

I especially like Al's reference to Repignofasists as "shameless dicks." Seems appropriate to me.

I Finally Agree With Ronald Raygun on Something

"A moment I've been dreading. George (Bush Sr.) brought his ne're-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida. The one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I'll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they'll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work."

Gitmo Gonzales May Be Prosecuted

The U.S. Inspector General may recommend criminal prosecution of departed Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at the conclusion of an investigation, possibly as early as next month, the fired former U.S. attorney for Western Washington told a Spokane audience Friday
This is great news!!! I hope that upon conviction Gitmo is is subjected to dogs barking at his minisule testicles and bamboo shoots shoved up his ass before they are shoved under his finger nails. You know, all the same stuff he analyzed in the run up to him determining that the Geneva Convention and its protections were "quaint."

Yup, and when he's in the slammer I hope his cell mate is hung like a horse and only wants the top.

Serves you right, Gitmo. Serves you right.

Evangelical "Christian" Wingnuts Hold Summit

Evangelical voters gathered here yesterday to weigh their political options even as one of their champions, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, officially withdrew from the 2008 presidential contest, robbing many of their first choice in the Republican nominating battle.
In the run up to the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam, Bush warned us that if we didn't take out Saddam Hussein that there might be a "mushroom cloud" over the United States.

Given the number and type of people attending this Evangelical whackjob summit, I think its unfortunate that the mushroom cloud Bush warned us about couldn't materialize at the site of this meeting.

Still Believe All the Invasive Searches in Airports Make You Safe?

Well, guess again.

WASHINGTON — Security screeners at two of the nation's busiest airports failed to find fake bombs hidden on undercover agents posing as passengers in more than 60% of tests last year, according to a classified report obtained by USA TODAY.
And to think that one of the biggest tax increases the Bush Abomination and its enabling Repignofascist Congress has foisted on us is the September 11 "security" tax on every plane ticket we purchase. This tax is supposed to pay the salaries of the porcine ghouls who threaten you with a body cavity search at the airport. However these same ghouls are missing 75 percent of the fake bombs brought through airport screening locations at 2 major airports.

Not sure about you but this certainly makes me feel safer. And I'm so thankful that the tax increase that Bush imposed on us is being used for such a humanitarian and societal purpose.

Wake up sheeple.

Another Repignofascist Hits The Trail Before Hitting Jail

Representative J. Dennis Hastert, the Illinois Republican who became House speaker at a moment of crisis for his party, has decided not to seek re-election in 2008, opening a second Republican-held House seat in his home state.
Good riddance you despicable bastard.

Denny is just another corrupt Repignofascist who can tell that bailing out of his seat in Congress before his criminal trial begins makes for good politics. It might even save a Repignofascist seat in the House. This makes 13 of them who have announced their retirement in recent weeks. Does anyone remember the adage about rats fleeing a sinking ship?

Repignofascists Prevail and Bush's Veto of Child Health Care is Sustained

WASHINGTON - House Democrats were unable Thursday to override President Bush's veto of their pre-election year effort to expand a popular government health insurance program to cover 10 million children.

The bill had bipartisan support but the 273-156 roll call was 13 votes short of the two-thirds that majority supporters needed to enact the bill into law over Bush's objections. The bill had passed the Senate with a veto-proof margin.
Way to go, Repignofascist bastards. I'm sure that each and every one of you, after sustaining your Fuhrer's veto, marched down to the House administration officer and turned in your government sponsored health care coverage so you are on an equal footing with all the kids you just fucked over.

Miserable rotten bastards.

Interview with Charlie Savage of the Boston Globe

This is a great interview with Boston Globe reporter, Pulitzer winner, Charlie Savage. From the Frontline "Cheney's Law" site. Savage has a new book out, looks good. Boston Globe is one of the very few papers that has done a decent job with these criminals. They reported the chimp's guard service failure back in 2000.

Welcome to the World of Divorce Britney

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears can't even visit her children now.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Welcome to divorce world 1983, Britney. Now you get to know how every male who was divorced more than 20 years ago felt at the end of their divorce. They were just a source of money and suddenly they were no longer a parent but they were "visitors." Its interesting how you parent children but you visit prisoners in jail. Now you know how we all feel Britney. Pass the word to your sisters and let them know how damned lucky they were. They didn't get to be made to feel like a pariah by the "justice" system. And, most of us never ran around breaking the law or showing off our crotch for cameras or being massively drunk in public. Most of us were just dad's who were punished by a court system that believed that only mom's could provide "for the best interest of the children."

Thankfully you have enlightened judged in Los Angeles County who can tell that simply because your genetics are the chosen ones in most divorce courts, fathers can and usually are the best interest of the children.

Hope it hurts as much for you as it did for me to be a visitor and no longer a parent, Britney. Hope it hurts really deep.

Geneticist James Watson's Speech in London Halted

Gee. What a surprise. Who would have ever thought that science would take a back seat to political correctness?

Controversial DNA pioneer's talk halted

Thu Oct 18, 6:29 AM ET

LONDON - London's Science Museum canceled a Friday talk by Nobel Prize-winning geneticist James Watson after the co-discoverer of DNA's structure told a newspaper that Africans and Europeans had different levels of intelligence.

James Watson provoked widespread outrage with his comments to The Sunday Times, which quoted the 79-year-old American as saying he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours — whereas all the testing says not really."

He told the paper he hoped that everyone was equal, but added: "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true."

The comments drew condemnation from British lawmakers, scientists, and civil rights campaigners. On Wednesday The Independent newspaper put Watson on its front page, against the words: "Africans are less intelligent than Westerners, says DNA pioneer."

Watson, who serves as chancellor of the renowned Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., was to deliver a sold-out lecture at the Science Museum, but on Wednesday night the institution said Watson's comments had gone too far and the event had been canceled.

Call to Watson's book publisher and his office in New York were not immediately returned.

This is not the first time Watson's speaking engagements have caused a stir.

The Independent catalogued a series of controversial statements from Watson, including one in which he reportedly suggested women should have the right to have abortions if tests could determine their children would be homosexual.

In 2000 Watson shocked an audience at the University of California, Berkeley, when he advanced a theory about a link between skin color and sex drive.

His lecture, complete with slides of bikini-clad women, argued that extracts of melanin — which give skin its color — had been found to boost subjects' sex drive.

"That's why you have Latin lovers," he said, according to people who attended the lecture. "You've never heard of an English lover. Only an English patient."

Telephone and e-mail messages left with the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory after business hours Wednesday were not immediately returned.

A Note From Our Friends at the American Civil Liberties Union

ONE DAY, DECENT AMERICANS...
From Steven Watt, ACLU Attorney

He told me to never lose hope because, one day, decent Americans will do the right thing.

I'm one of the ACLU attorneys working to expose and end extraordinary rendition - the despicable practice of kidnapping people off the street and transporting them to secret overseas prisons or countries known to engage in torture.

The person who shared those words of encouragement did so earlier this month when the Supreme Court refused to hear the ACLU's appeal on behalf of Khaled El-Masri, an innocent German citizen who was kidnapped, detained and tortured in a secret overseas prison by the CIA.

Even more remarkably, those words came from an individual who himself has been victimized by extraordinary rendition and torture.

As ACLU supporters, you and I can take heart in my friend's generosity of spirit and his strong faith in the fundamental decency and humanity of the American people. But, more importantly, we must deepen our resolve to end the lawless practices of our government that give comfort to torturers and deny the fundamental human rights of
torture victims.

There is no doubt we're fighting an uphill battle. We've been up against a government that will stop at nothing in its pursuit of power and today we mark the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Military Commissions Act - one of the most
despicable pieces of legislation to ever see the light of day.

This reprehensible law is the starkest example of the countless ways that the Bush Administration - aided by a complicit and compliant Congress - has stained our nation's legacy as the standard-bearer for the protection of human rights and
undermined our Constitutional heritage of due process and justice for all.

So this dark anniversary seems a fitting day for us all to re-commit ourselves to our defense of the Constitution and to set our sights on putting things right.

No matter how many setbacks we experience - no matter how many heartbreaking losses we have to endure - we will keep at it until, finally, decent Americans force their government to respect the rule of law. This is what keeps the lawyers and our amazing clients here at the ACLU going - knowing that history will be on our
side.

And it makes a tremendous difference to us - and to our clients - to know that we have passionately concerned Americans like you standing behind us each step of the way.

You, me and every ACLU member is bound by a devotion to principle and a promise to never relent in defending people's human rights and challenging cruel acts of injustice. Together, we will find a way to end the reprehensible acts of torture and rendition that have been committed in our name. We will restore Habeas Corpus. We will shut down the infamous prison at Guantánamo Bay. And, no matter how long it takes, we will fix the warrantless wiretapping mess.

So while on this day I'm saddened by the direction our country has taken and I share in the frustration of those who wonder what they can do to change it, I'm also determined. And I'm more than a little bit mad. But I know what I'm going to do about it: I'm going to keep working and keep fighting. And I hope you share in that determination and conviction.

As my friend reminded me: if we keep working together, we will reach that moment when decent Americans compel our government to respect freedom and restore the rule of law. We're the ACLU and we will not be stopped.

With deep gratitude for your support,

Steven Watt, ACLU Attorney

P.S. If you believe it is absolutely indefensible that the current Congress has let the Military Commissions Act stand for a full year, I urge you to join us in demanding that Congress commit to restoring our Constitutional values. Just as we won't give up in court, we aren't giving up in Congress either. Let's make sure they
know it. Please take action today by telling your Members of Congress that you won't wait for a more politically expedient time to restore the Constitution. The time is now.

Wide Stance Isn't Loved By His Own Kind Any Longer

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sen. John Ensign, who chairs the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, made clear to CNN's Wolf Blitzer Wednesday he wants embattled Idaho Sen. Larry Craig to leave the Senate — immediately.

"The senator said that by the end of September, if the guilty plea was not overturned, if he was not reestablished on his seniority on committees, that he would resign," said Ensign, a Republican representing Nevada. "Neither one of those things are going to happen. I call on Sen. Craig, if he loved the Senate and his party, he would keep his word. "
This makes me so sad. The party of compassionate conservatives wants our favorite senator, Mr Wide Stance of Idaho to leave the senate immediately solely because he 1) was arrested for soliciting gay sex in a mens room, 2) pleaded guilty to soliciting gay sex in a bathroom, and now 3) denies soliciting gay sex in a mens room.

Come on, Senator Ensign, can't you see that Senator Wide Stance is just confused and conflicted? Isn't this the time for all good compassionate conservatives to rally behind one of their own, chanting things like "god" will help, and other nonsense? I simply cannot believe that a party full of "chrisitans" (and pedophiles) would want to toss out one of your own in his hour of need.

"God" is going to strike you down Senator Ensign. We want Senator Wide Stance to stay in office until the bitter end. "God" knows what is best for him not you, you heretic.

Cowardly Dems Let Al Gore Do Dirty Work

When in doubt, they choose to be cautious, often timid, and afraid to attack President George W. Bush as the criminal he is, the worst president in history, richly deserving impeachment and prosecution.
Wow. Isn't this the truth. There is not one Democrat in the House or Senate, with the possible exception of Dennis Kucinich who has the testosterone needed to be able to be in the same league as Al Gore. Fucking wimps.

OJ Wanted Firearms Before Last Episode

LAS VEGAS - O.J. Simpson wanted armed men with him when he confronted two sports memorabilia dealers, according to a co-defendant who has agreed to a plea deal agreed to testify for the prosecution in the armed robbery case.

"O.J. said 'Hey, just bring some firearms,'" Walter Alexander told police in a transcript of his tape-recorded statement obtained by The Associated Press.
Maybe this time they can put this violent bastard behind bars where he should have been in mid-1994.

Rudy Spends $5,370 a Night on Hotel Room

Isn't this quaint???

Rudy, the fiscal conservative, spends $5,370 a night on a hotel room and nobody says a word. But John Edwards gets a $400 haircut and the Repignofascist news media go ballistic on him.

Wake up, sheeple.

Bush Family Planning Appointee Called Contraceptives Part Of The ‘Culture Of Death’

In a move that only the Bush Abomination could come up with, their nominee for the head of family planning had once made the statement in the title line.

Is this not par for the course for these assholes?? Talk about taking care of their own. At least we only have 460 more incredibly long days of this jerkoff left until he's gone.

Bush Vetoes to Remain "Relevant"

In a bold and striking attempt to demonstrate his relevance today, Resident George Bush today said that he vetoes bills to demonstrate that he's still relevant.

I kid you not. The moron actually said that. With a 24 percent approval rating, the man-child has to dig into his deepest corner to find relevancy. I guess issuing a veto to provide health care for children is one of his more relavent moves.

How many days left until this asshole is gone?

Religion As a Form of Eugenics

BOSTON - Sabrina Rahim doesn't practice any particular faith, but she had no problem signing a letter declaring that because of her deeply held religious beliefs, her 4-year-old son should be exempt from the vaccinations required to enter preschool.

She is among a small but growing number of parents around the country who are claiming religious exemptions to avoid vaccinating their children when the real reason may be skepticism of the shots or concern they can cause other illnesses. Some of these parents say they are being forced to lie because of the way the vaccination laws are written in their states.
This is great news for the earth!!!

Not only do we get rid of a bunch of religofascists because they aren't innoculated against various diseases, but in doing so we also reduce the birth rate, at least in the United States.

I have never understood where the Religofascists come up with this paranoia about innoculations. Its not like the cosmic entity they prey to called "Jesus" was pushing needles on the streets of Bethlehem back in the days he was allegedly alive.

But whatever. If there are fewer idiotic Religofascists out there so much the better.

And if you're not educated in what "eugenics" means in the title of this post, check out what dictionary.com has to say:

The study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, esp. by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics).
In more simple terms, eugenics is the biological act of getting the dumb ones out of the population before they can breed. This story suggests we might be on the road to something.
