Brit Swims at the North Pole

Here's a depressing story from yahoo.com news.

British adventurer and swimmer Lewis Gordon Pugh on Sunday became the first person to swim in the icy waters of the North Pole, to raise awareness of how global warming is effecting the polar ice cap.

Pugh, 37, took 18 minutes and 50 seconds to swim one kilometre (0.6 miles) in the minus 1.8-degree Celsius (28.8-degree Fahrenheit) water -- the coldest water ever swum in, he claimed in a statement.

Its rather depressing to think that he could find open water at the north pole in which to swim. But with the climate changes we are experiencing world wide, probably nothing is out of the ordinary any more.

How much longer will it be before the United States government takes seriously the issue of global warming? My guess is nothing will change until January 20, 2009, at 12:01 p.m. when an adult is inaugurated as our next President.
