Large Lake Disappears in Chile

Here's a forehead slapper!

A lake in southern Chile has mysteriously disappeared, prompting speculation the ground has simply opened up and swallowed it whole

If this lake had been in Western Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota you would automatically suspect that some farmer looking to put a few more acres of surplus wheat into a subsidy program had killed and gutted the lake. Wetlands disappear like that all the time on the Great Plains. But this is a glacial fed lake in the Patagonia region of southern Chile. If Chilean Patagonia is like Argentine Patagonia, about the last thing that happened to the lake was it being drained.

Maybe seismic activity caused a fissure and the water was consumed by the earth. That, or the Repugnican Party thought they could get a few more campaign contributions from Haliburton and secretly gave them a contract to baffle the Chileans and make them think that Dubya's turist buddies were hard at work in Chile now.

That's it! Bush hasn't been able to win any of his War of Terror in the Middle East so he's going to try closer to home. Watch him screw that up also.
