A disciplinary committee of the North Carolina State Bar Association has disbarred Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong over his supercillious and aggressive attempt to prosecute three Duke University students who didn't rape anyone at a party. We often forget that a fourth person, the coach of the Duke lacrosse team, lost his job because of the trumped up charges brought by the escort hired to dance at the party. Charges, of course, that were never proven and couldn't have been because they didn't have a shred of truth to them.
Mike Nifong pursued this case because he thought it would be the coup de grace for his re-election campaign last year. He had to know that there wasn't a shred of evidence on the side of his case but despite that inconvenient truth he went ahead trying to prosecute three kids for doing nothing. Although Nifong is a Democrat he behaved like a Repugnican in using others for his own political ends. That being the case I hope the punishments he receives are twice as strong as if he had been a Repugnican. He should have known better.
I sincerely hope that Nifong winds up living on the street and eating out of garbage cans behind the local McDonald's. I also hope that the three students and their wronged former coach sue Nifong for every penny he's ever earned and any pennies he might think he'll earn (a la O.J.Simpson) for a book about his "ordeal." I sincerely hope this creep cannot sleep restfully at night as payback for the wrong he did to four other people - all for his own political gain.
