Supporting Troops
No, this picture wasn't taken recently in response to the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraqnam. It was taken in November 1969 when I was a first quarter freshman at the University of Wissconsin River Falls. It was taken at a time when lies were being foisted on the public about soldiers returning from Vietnam being spit on and other despicable acts of cowardice.
There are hundreds of pictures like this one out there on the web and in people's memories. Yet to this day we the people are led to believe by the conservative-biased media that all of us from that era hated troops, and spit on them and called them baby killers, and other atrocities.
We didn't. We wanted each and every one of those poor souls trapped in an unwinnable situation in Vietnam to be home safe and sound. Its the same way today and many of us who protested then are doing the same thing now. And any fool who watches Faux Nooz and gets their talking points from Rush Limbaugh doesn't understand now as they couldn't understand back then that all we wanted was for 500,000 American kids we didn't know to be home safe and sound instead of being fodder for machine gun fire and booby traps in the jungles of Vietnam.
I recently saw this bumpersticker. Its more true than I care to admit.
