In the never-ending pursuit of ways to countermand the United States Constitution, the police in Richmond Virginia have gone above and beyond the call of duty to minimize the ability of the people to speak out.
Richmond police and parks officials are in trouble with the ACLU of Virginia for removing a woman from a Fourth of July event in Byrd Park for carrying a political banner.
Rain Burroughs, who said she was driven to a different area of the sprawling park and held in a police cruiser with her 7-year old daughter until the fireworks display ended, was not charged with any crime.
Police said they removed her from the Dogwood Dell area at the request of city parks employees. A parks official said the banner, which made an indirect reference to the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, disrupted the patriotic theme of the concert at Dogwood Dell and the fireworks.
How many of our forefathers, from Thomas Jefferson on down, have made reference to there being nothing more patriotic than protest?
How many of us remember the oft-forgotten segments of the Constitution that guarantee us freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly?
Obviously since September 11, 2001, the Bush Abomination has done its level best to infringe on those most basic of American rights. Now the gestapo-like police in Richmond Virginia have forgotten the Constitution and are instead acting like henchmen for the Bushies.
Good on ya to anyone who assembles anywhere and protests Bush and Cheney. Thank you to anyone who displays a banner promoting the impeachment of Cheney. It should have happened long ago.
Most importantly, thank Allah and other cosmic entities for the American Civil Liberties Union.
Its funny how even staunch Repugnican swine like former Congressman Bob Barr (R-GA) have sought out the ACLU when they really needed someone to defend the Constitution for them. The ACLU is involved with this latest attack on the Constitution in Richmond. I hope a few anal pores are puckered on the part of the Richmond Police Department over this.
I joined the ACLU in 1988 when Daddy Bush made a big deal out of Michael Dukakis being a "card carrying member of the ACLU." You should also. As Michael Douglas' character said in the movie "The American President", "whats more basic than defending our constitutional rights?"
The ACLU does that every day. Thankfully someone in the country still does. We know many times over that the Bushies will not.

I am in agreement about dissent being Patriotic, damn right! However you only claim that Republicans are at fault, now this time the President is and is republican. But many democrats and republicans have stolen our liberties and the true freedoms in our constitution. My opinion is that the only way that we can increase our individual liberties is by increasing our personal responsibility and reducing the size of the federal Gov't and it's power base (regulation) drastically. thanks keep up the good fight!
